The whole point of having sprinklers is to have them go off automatically without you having to monitor them. But, because of that inattention, it can be difficult for you to know exactly when something has gone wrong and it is time to call us in for sprinkler system maintenance. There are some signs you can look for, though, even if you aren’t keeping an eagle eye out the window at all hours:

How Do You Know You Need Sprinkler System Maintenance?

  • Uneven dead patches. If you are noticing that parts of your lawn look more yellow than others, it can be a sign that you are no longer getting even coverage with your sprinkler system. If this is confined to specific sections, it could mean that your sprinkler head just isn’t moving. If entire zones are dying, though, it may mean one or more of your sprinkler heads aren’t popping up at all.
  • Pooling at the sprinkler base. If there are pools of water at the base of your sprinkler heads, this is a clear sign that your system is not using water efficiently and could therefore benefit from sprinkler system maintenance.
  • Higher water bills. This could be from anything, theoretically. However, lawn maintenance can take up a lot of money when it isn’t being used efficiently. If your water bill suddenly increases, it could be worth it to keep an eye on your sprinkler system.

There are many other ways to confirm you need sprinkler system maintenance — just look for broken streams of water, unmoving sprinkler heads, and strange sounds during operation — but these are the main ways you can tell you need maintenance without having to babysit your system.
